If you are a Building Official, you will be aware of the National BCA Competency Assessment System (NCAS) that ensures Building Officials are assessed every two years for competency.
Building Competency N.Z is the preferred supplier of competency assessment to Building Consent Authorities (BCA’s) Accredited Authority for Building (AOB) and independent contractors throughout New Zealand, we currently assess in excess of 300 candidates per year, using our independently developed system.
We have a highly skilled team of assessors and technical experts who can assess candidates against the National Competency Assessment System (NCAS version 2) competency framework. In addition to competency assessments for Building Control Officers, we can provide technical audits and can supervise and witness Building Official functions to support quality assurance and professional development.
Our experienced assessors and technical specialists help Building Officials demonstrate current competency, identify development needs and progress to higher levels of responsibility.

Assess technical building control staff
The national competency assessment system is a framework used by building consent authorities (BCAs) and Accredited Authority for Building (AOBs) to assess their technical building control staff.
Performance indicators and specifications
The framework consists of a national set of performance indicators and specifications that define what competency is in the building control context.
Create evaluation criteria
The system was developed by a Sector Advisory Group set up to create evaluation criteria, consider framework documents and make recommendations to us.
Human competency levels
The national system doesn’t focus primarily on building types or categories but on the human competency levels required to undertake building assessment work.
